People who are passionate about work get depressed

April 9, 2019

A survey that says it's dangerous even if you have too much passion

According to a research report by the University of Oxford, 50 men and women working in animal shelters in North America were interviewed and investigated about their working styles and passions, and it was found that there are three patterns of working styles.

By the way, animal shelters in North America are socially meaningful tentacles that contribute to the protection of animals, but they have long working hours and low wages, so it is a difficult occupation. In other words, working in such a place means that you can't do it without a certain level of consciousness.

And here are the three patterns of how to work

① Identity thinking

A pattern in which you think that you are finding an identity for your work, such as "I have this job as my vocation" or "I have a favorite job", and that is where my passion arises. It's not for money, it's for my dreams.

② Contribution thinking

I want to contribute to society, change the world with this work, and improve the world! A type of person who burns passion with a spirit of service. This is also a self-sacrificing spirit, not for money, but for everyone! That's the type.

③ Practical thinking

A person who thinks realistically and tries to do what he can, judging that work is divided into work and that he can do what he can. Rather than passion, I'm the type who works efficiently and polishes myself. And, of these, the only person who was able to improve their work skills most easily and was able to continue working in a stable manner was the person with "③ Practical thinking" . Well, when you compare it objectively, it feels like it's somehow.

In the end, realistic people improved their jobs faster and never abandoned their jobs than they were passionate about.

Conversely, people who are too passionate have a weakness that their ideals are high and they are vulnerable to actual stress, so the gap between ideals and reality can lead to burnout, or mental illness can lead to depression. You may develop a disease. This is exactly the reason why I developed depression. ━━ (; ゚ Д ゚) ━━━ !!

The passion for work is also moderate

I was doing it with the consciousness of "contributing to society" and "rejuvenating Japan that was damaged by the earthquake", and I was shocked by the temperature difference with the people around me. It was a feeling. Of course, I think that kind of consciousness is very good, but I learned that I have to identify what I can and cannot do in reality. There are limits to what you can do on your own, so it's important to contribute to society as much as you can.

That's a problem because I have no passion at all. If you are unmotivated, too diligent for money, and try to live comfortably and safely, you will not grow yourself, your stress tolerance will decrease, your brain function will decline, and you will eventually suffer from mental illness. There is also a risk of depression, that's it.

Human beings need a sense of meaning to be happy, and if they have a sense of meaning in their work, they can have a passion, so don't hold your ideals too high and moderate them. A person who is passionate about work is characterized by being a "perfectionist". Such people will also introduce the article, so please read it if you like.
