[Not just diet] Petit fasting is also effective for depression

May 2, 2019

I've been doing this for about half a year, but it's called "petit fasting" or "half fasting." It feels like it's trending somehow, petit fasting.

They don't eat for about 16 hours, which is about two-thirds of the 24 hours a day. However, I haven't decided "16 hours" very strictly, and sometimes it's 15 hours and sometimes it's 17 hours.

The "petit fasting" has various merits such as beauty effect and diet effect, but the reason why I do petit fasting is to "improve the intestinal environment".

The intestines are also called the "second brain"

The shape of the intestines and the brain are similar. That's why it's not called the "second brain." It is said that the intestines and internal organs do not operate in response to commands from the brain, but are independently activated by the parasympathetic nerves, but intestinal hormones are also produced in the intestines and sent to the brain. That's right.

Originally, primitive creatures are like earthworms, without a brain, and the whole body is almost like an "intestine". So there is a story that the intestine plays the role of the brain in primitive organisms.

It is said that the intestines affect the brain even in organisms with evolved brains.

It is scientifically proven that serotonin, a substance in the brain, is actually produced in the intestine and sent to the brain.

Improving the intestinal environment is effective for depression

That's right. When the intestinal environment is improved, hormones in the brain are secreted, which has a positive effect on the brain and enhances mental health, so it is also effective in preventing depression and alleviating symptoms.

The substance in the brain "serotonin" mentioned earlier is also called "happiness hormone", and it is known that when it is secreted, it stabilizes and calms the mood in the brain = enhances the mood of happiness. It is a hormone.

By adjusting the intestinal environment, hormones in the brain are also activated, and depressive symptoms are alleviated.

Specific petit fasting method

If you usually finish eating dinner from 8:00 to 9:00, you will not eat after that.

The next meal will be 15 to 16 hours later, so you will have to eat around 12:00 to 13:00 noon.

In other words, I don't eat breakfast.

"I have to eat breakfast" is a hoax. One theory is that Edison made "breakfast" a habit to sell electricity and inventions that used electricity (such as toasters).

Originally, humans are the only animals that eat breakfast in nature. For example, carnivorous animals cannot be eaten immediately after waking up in the morning.
Even if you are an animal that collects and eats plants, you can't find them in your diet unless you go looking for them.

In other words, living things basically don't have the concept of "breakfast" in the first place.

The story is off, that is, skip breakfast and open between dinner and lunch for 15 to 16 hours. During that time, the primary purpose is to reduce the burden on the intestines and improve the intestinal environment.

Meals are NG, but you can drink water. I also drink black coffee and tea. It's a drink that doesn't seem to burden your intestines. It feels good to drink plain hot water.

Oh, I take vitamin D supplements in the morning.

Well, I believe that if you continue to fast like that, your intestinal environment will improve and your mental health will improve.

By the way, I also started to pay attention to meals that seemed to be good for the intestinal environment.

I eat a lot of raw vegetables to get enzymes, and I like to eat yogurt, kimchi, pickles, and other foods that contain lactic acid bacteria.

Is it really effective?

I don't really feel that it's working really well, but I think it's working slowly. Maybe I'm just thinking.

However, I don't mind skipping breakfast at all, it doesn't hinder my work, and I don't overeat, so I wonder if it's harder to gain weight.

Besides, I think that it will be a complex result because I take light exercise such as muscle training and vitamin D, but the mental condition is quite good, so if you are suffering from depression, you should definitely try it. that's what I think.

That's why I will introduce articles on lifestyle, health and depression, so please read them if you like.
